NFI glossary and dictionary

On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

road density (forest)
Quotient of the length of truck-accessible roads to forest area. Road density is a commonly used key parameter to describe the intensity of the forest transportation system (according to BÜRGI 1997).

[D] Erschliessungsdichte
Quotient aus der lastwagenbefahrbaren Strassenlänge und der Waldfläche. Die Erschliessungsdichte ist eine gebräuchliche Kennziffer, um die Intensität der Walderschliessung eines Gebietes zu beschreiben (nach BÜRGI 1997).

[F] densité de desserte
Quotient de la longueur des routes à camions et de la surface forestière. La densité de la desserte est un critère habituel pour définir l'intensité de la desserte forestière (selon BÜRGI 1997).

[I] densità della viabilità
Rapporto tra la lunghezza delle strade percorribili da automezzi pesanti e la superficie forestale. E' un parametro utilizzabile per la descrizione dell'intensità della viabilità forestale di un comprensorio (BUERGI 1997).

  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
