NFI glossary and dictionary

On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

type of treatment
The type of the silvicultural measure. In the NFI meaning the next necessary silvicultural treatment, independent of the economical, legal and operative options. The following types of treatment are differentiated: tending, thinning, secondary felling, final cutting, selection cutting and thinning of mountain forests.

[D] Eingriffsart
Art der waldbaulichen Massnahme. Im LFI Art des nächsten waldbaulich angezeigten Eingriffs, unabhängig von den wirtschaftlichen, rechtlichen und betrieblichen Möglichkeiten. Folgende Eingriffsarten werden unterschieden: Pflege, Durchforstung, Lichtung, Räumung, Plenterung und Gebirgswalddurchforstung.

[F] genre de la dernière/prochaine intervention
Genre de mesure sylvicole. Dans l'IFN, on évalue le genre de la prochaine intervention nécessaire indépendamment des conditions économiques et juridiques, ainsi que des critères liés à l'entreprise. On distingue les genres d'intervention suivants: soins culturaux, éclaircie, coupe secondaire, réalisation, jardinage et éclaircie de forêt de montagne.

[I] tipo del ultimo/prossimo intervento
Tipo di misura selvicolturale. Nell'IFN il tipo del prossimo intervento selvicolturale auspicabile viene valutato facendo astrazione delle costrizioni economiche, legali o aziendali. Si distinguono i seguenti tipi: cura, diradamento, taglio di sementazione, taglio di sgombero, taglio saltuario, diradamenti in popolamenti di montagna.

  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
