NFI glossary and dictionary

On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

mean diameter
Mean of the diameter at breast hight of all measured trees in a stand. For the calculation of the stand density index (SDI) the diameter of the mean-tree of the basal area is used.

[D] Mitteldurchmesser
Mittelwert der Brusthöhendurchmesser aller gemessenen Bäume eines Bestandes. Bei der Berechnung des Bestandesdichteindex (SDI) wird der Durchmesser des Grundflächen-Mittelstammes verwendet.

[F] diamètre moyen
Moyenne des diamètres à hauteur de poitrine de tous les arbres mesurés d'un peuplement. Lors du calcul de l'indice de densité du peuplement (SDI), on utilise le diamètre de l'arbre de surface terrière moyenne (dg).

[I] diametro medio
Valore medio del diametro a petto d'uomo di tutti gli alberi misurati del popolamento. Nel calcolo dell'indice di densità del popolamento (SDI) viene utilizzato il diametro dell'albero di area basimetrica media (dg).

  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
