NFI glossary and dictionary

On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

protection forest
Forest providing protection services regardless of any other forest functions it may have. Generally protection services comprise protection against natural hazards, protection of drinking water and soil as well as protection against wind, noise, and being seen. In the NFI this term is used mainly for protection against natural hazards.

[D] Schutzwald
Wald, der eine Schutzleistung erbringt, ungeachtet allfälliger weiterer Waldfunktionen. Die Schutzleistungen umfassen allgemein den Schutz vor Naturgefahren, den Trinkwasser- und Bodenschutz sowie den Wind-, Lärm- und Sichtschutz. Im LFI bezieht sich der Begriff vorwiegend auf den Schutz vor Naturgefahren.

[F] forêt protectrice
Forêt qui exerce une prestation de protection, indépendamment d'autres fonctions de la forêt. La fonction de protection englobe en général la protection contre les dangers naturels, la protection de l'eau potable et du sol ainsi que la protection contre le vent, le bruit et la protection visuelle. Pour l'IFN, ce terme se rapporte principalement à la protection contre les dangers naturels.

[I] bosco di protezione
Bosco che svolge una funzione (prestazione) protettiva, indipendentemente da altre eventuali funzioni. Le funzioni protettive comprendono in generale la difesa dai pericoli naturali, la protezione del suolo e della potabilità delle acque, così come anche la protezione dal vento, dal rumore e dalla vista di deturpazioni del paesaggio. Nell'IFN il concetto interessa principalmente la protezione da pericoli naturali.

  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
