NFI glossary and dictionary

On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

stability standards
Minimum silvicultural goals in a protection forest to sufficiently reduce the effect of natural hazards, varying according to forest community. The goals are based on the notion of natural forest (cf. WASSER and FREHNER 1996). In the NFI qualitative criteria for the stand structure are derived from these goals and used as the basis for assessing the medium- to long-term maintenance of the protective effect.
