NFI glossary and dictionary

On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

interview
Collection of data in interviews. For the NFI sample plots, information about timber yield, availability of wood, expenditure on harvest and extraction, and harvesting and extraction methods was obtained from the forest service.

[D] Umfrage
Erhebung von Daten durch Befragung. Für die Probeflächen des LFI werden Informationen über die Holznutzung, die Verfügbarkeit des Holzes, den Holzerei- und Rückeaufwand, die Art der Holzernte und die bei der Holzerei verwendeten Rückemittel durch Befragung des Forstdienstes erhoben.

[F] enquête
Recherche de données par questionnaire. Pour les placettes de l'IFN, on récolte des informations auprès du service forestier local concernant l'exploitation du bois, sa disponibilité, les coûts de récolte et de débardage et les moyens de débardage utilisés.

[I] inchiesta
Raccolta di dati attraverso interviste. Per le aree di saggio dell'IFN si raccolgono con questo metodo informazioni presso i Servizi Forestali circa le utilizzazioni legnose, la disponibilità di legname, i costi di allestimento ed esbosco del legname, i metodi di esbosco utilizzati.

    Anl. LFI = Anleitung für die Feldaufnahmen der Erhebung 1993-1995 (Stierlin et al. 1994)
  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
