Dictionary/glossary

On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

  • grove

    Plant community consisting mainly of trees with a more than 30% degree of cover and a height of at least 5 m (according to WT) In the NFI a stocking outside the defined forest area comprising the grove types hedges/agricultural groves, riparian groves, groves at high altitude areas, shelterbelts, park groves and forest strips.

    Vorwiegend aus Bäumen bestehende Pflanzengemeinschaft mit einem Deckungsgrad von mehr als 30% und einer Endhöhe von mindestens 5 m (nach WT). Im LFI Bestockung ausserhalb der definierten Waldfläche, mit den Gehölztypen Hecken/landwirtschaftliches Gehölz, Bach-/Ufergehölz, Windschutzstreifen, Hochlagengehölz, Parkgehölz und Waldstreifen.

    Communauté végétale composée principalement d'arbres avec un degré de recouvrement supérieur à 30% et une hauteur finale d'au moins 5 m (selon WT). Dans l'IFN, boisement situé hors de la surface forestière définie: les haies et bosquets champêtres, les boisés des rives et des cours d'eau, les rideaux-abri, les boisés d'altitude, les bosquets dans les parcs et les bandes boisées.
  • [it] formazione legnosa
    Formazione vegetale composta principalmente da alberi con un grado di copertura superiore al 30% ed un'altezza finale di almeno 5 m (da WT). Nell'IFN si considerano anche i soprassuoli al di fuori dell'areale forestale ascrivibili alle seguenti formazioni: siepi, formazioni legnose agricole, formazioni riparie, strisce frangivento, formazioni d'alta quota, alberature in parchi e strisce boscate.

  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
