Dictionary/Glossary

German-French-Italian-English dictionary of plant names and technical terms used in the NFI. Definitions are given for the terms highlighted in yellow.

• target value

  Analyzed unit of a table or a map (result) such as volume or stem count. In case of trees, the target value also defines the analyzed population such as only standing and live trees. The value is presented as a total or per hectar along with a standard error.
• [de] Zielgrösse
  Analysierte Einheit einer Tabelle oder Karte (Ergebnis) wie z.B. Vorrat oder Stammzahl. Im Falle von Bäumen definiert die Zielgrösse auch die analysierte Population wie z.B. nur die stehend und lebenden Bäume. Wird pro Hektar- oder als Gesamtwert mit einem Schätzfehler dargestellt.
• [fr] valeur cible
  Unité analysée d'un tableau ou d'une carte (résultat), comme p. ex. volume sur pied ou nombre de tiges. S'il s'agit d'arbres, la valeur cible est liée à des informations sur la population analysée, le résultat étant p. ex. valable pour les arbres sur pied et vivants. Les résultats sont représentés par unité de surface [ha] ou sous forme de valeurs générales avec une estimation de leur erreur.
• [it] variabile risposta
  È l'unità analizzata di una tabella o cartina (risultato), come ad esempio la Provvigione o il Numero di alberi. Nel caso degli alberi, la Variabile risposta definisce anche la popolazione che viene analizzata, per esempio gli alberi vivi in piedi. Essa viene visualizzata quale valore totale (assoluto) oppure ad ettaro e accompagnata dall'errore di stima.

• The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
• The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
