German-French-Italian-English dictionary of plant names and technical terms used in the NFI. Definitions are given for the terms highlighted in yellow.

• sample plot

  Part of a forest area, chosen either by chance or systematically, where the tree, stand and area attributes are surveyed. The NFI sample plots consist of an interpretation area of 50 x 50 m for the assessment of stand features, of two concentric circles of 200 and 500 m2 for recording the sample trees and of two circular areas of 14.1 m2 each for recording the young trees (so-called young forest satellites).

  Zufällig oder systematisch ausgewählter Teil der Waldfläche, auf der die Baum-, Bestandes- und Flächenmerkmale erhoben werden. Die Probeflächen des LFI bestehen aus einer Interpretationsfläche von 50 x 50 m für die Ansprache von Bestandesmerkmalen, aus zwei konzentrischen Kreisen von 2 und 5 Aren Fläche für die Aufnahme der Probebäume und aus zwei Kreisflächen von je 14.1 m2 für die Aufnahme der Jungbäume (sog. Jungwald-Satelliten).

  Partie de la surface forestière choisie de manière aléatoire ou systématique sur laquelle les caractéristiques des arbres, du peuplement et de la surface sont relevées. Les placettes de l'IFN se composent d'une surface d'interprétation de 50 m x 50 m pour l'appréciation des critères du peuplement, de deux cercles concentriques de 2 et 5 ares pour le relevé des arbres-échantillons et de deux cercles de 14,1 m2 chacun pour le relevé des jeunes arbres (satellites de jeune forêt).

  Porzione di superficie forestale, scelta in modo sistematico o casuale, sulla quale vengono rilevate le caratteristiche degli alberi, del popolamento e dell'area. L'area di saggio dell'IFN è costituita da una superficie di interpretazione di 50x50 m per l'analisi dei parametri del popolamento, da due cerchi concentrici di 2 e 5 are di superficie per il rilievo degli alberi campione e da due superfici circolari ognuna di 14,1 m2 per il rilievo sugli alberi giovani (area satellite di rilievo del bosco giovane).

• The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
• The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
