Dictionary/glossary

On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

stand
A community of trees which differs considerably from its surroundings due to its species composition, stand age or structure (according to SAFE), in the NFI with a minimum area of 500 m2.

[D] Bestand
Baumkollektiv, das sich von der Umgebung durch Baumartenzusammensetzung, Bestandesalter oder Aufbau wesentlich unterscheidet (nach SAFE), im LFI mit einer Minimalfläche von 5 Aren.

[F] peuplement
Ensemble d'arbres se distinguant nettement du voisinage par le mélange des essences, l'âge ou la structure (d'après CAFS) et mesurant, dans l'IFN, au moins 5 ares.

[I] popolamento
Insieme di alberi che si distingue nettamente dal suo intorno per composizione delle specie arboree, età del popolamento oppure struttura (da SAFE), nell'IFN a partire da una superficie minima di 5 are.

    WT = Waldbauliche Terminologie (Brünig und Mayer 1980)
    Anl. LFI = Anleitung für die Feldaufnahmen der Erhebung 1993-1995 (Stierlin et al. 1994)
  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
