Dictionary/glossary

On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

  • standard deviation

    Square root of the mean of the squared deviations from their mean of single values. Serves as a measure for the scatter of the investigated population.
  • [de] Standardabweichung
    Quadratwurzel aus dem Durchschnitt der quadrierten Abweichungen von Einzelwerten zu ihrem Mittelwert. Sie dient als Mass für die Streuung der untersuchten Grundgesamtheit.
  • [fr] écart-type
    Racine carrée de la moyenne des carrés des différences entre les valeurs individuelles et leur moyenne. Il sert à mesurer la dispersion de la population étudiée.
  • [it] deviazione standard
    Radice quadrata della media dei quadrati della deviazione dei singoli valori rispetto alla loro media. Viene utilizzata come misura della dispersione della popolazione totale analizzata.

    WT = Waldbauliche Terminologie (Brünig und Mayer 1980)
    Anl. LFI = Anleitung für die Feldaufnahmen der Erhebung 1993-1995 (Stierlin et al. 1994)
  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
