German-French-Italian-English dictionary of plant names and technical terms used in the NFI. Definitions are given for the terms highlighted in yellow.

  • thinning

    Measure of intermediate treatment and yield to improve the structure, stability and/or quality of the remaining stand by removing trees (according to SAFE).
  • [de] Durchforstung
    Massnahme der Bestandespflege und der Nutzung zur Verbesserung der Struktur, Stabilität und/oder Qualität des verbleibenden Bestandes durch Entnahme von Bäumen (nach SAFE).
  • [fr] éclaircie
    Mesure de soins et d'exploitation destinée à améliorer la structure, la stabilité et/ou la qualité du peuplement restant par le prélèvement de certains arbres (selon CAFS).
  • [it] diradamento
    Provvedimento delle cure colturali o delle utilizzazioni mirato al miglioramento della struttura, della stabilità e/o della qualità del popolamento rimanente attraverso il prelievo di alberi (da SAFE).

  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
