    Die Waldfläche ist die Gesamtheit aller Flächen, die gemäss Walddefinition des LFI als Wald bezeichnet werden. Die Walddefinition schliesst Gebüschwald mit ein. Diese Zielgrösse (Thema) wird auch verwendet für Auswertungen der Gesamtfläche, wenn es um die Unterscheidung von Wald und Nichtwald geht.

    Der Mischungsgrad ist ein geschätztes Basalflächenverhältnis von Nadelbäumen zu Laubbäumen, ausgedrückt in Prozentklassen für den massgebenden Bestand und die herrschende Schicht.

    Mass für die gegenseitige Bedrängung der Baumkronen eines Bestandes (Kronenschluss). Es bezieht sich auf die herrschende Schicht des massgebenden Bestandes, sofern diese 20% Deckungsgrad erreicht.

    Die Kantone sind politische Regionen mit auch eigenen Waldgesetzen. Die beiden Halbkantone Basel-Landschaft (BL) und Basel-Stadt (BS) werden im LFI aus statistischen Gründen zu einem Kanton zusammengefasst.
