NFI glossary and dictionary

On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

(tree) cluster structure
Spacial distribution of trees into densely-standing, distinctable groups of trees (clusters). Cluster structures occur mainly in the subalpine altidudinal vegetation zone due to changing site conditions on a small scale.

[D] Rottenstruktur
Räumliche Verteilung von Bäumen zu gedrängt stehenden, voneinander abgrenzbaren Baumkollektiven (Rotten). Rottenstrukturen kommen hauptsächlich in der subalpinen Vegetationshöhenstufe als Folge von kleinflächig wechselnden Standortsbedingungen vor.

[F] structure par collectifs
Distribution spatiale de collectifs d'arbres comprimés (petits groupes) délimités entre eux . On rencontre la structure par petits groupes principalement à l'étage de végétation subalpin, comme résultat de conditions de station qui varient sur de petites surfaces.

[I] struttura a collettivi
Distribuzione spaziale di alberi in collettivi stracolmi e distinguibili tra loro. Le strutture a collettivi si formano nel piano vegetazionale subalpino in conseguenza delle mutevoli caratteristiche microstazionali.

  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
