NFI glossary and dictionary

On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

regeneration under shelter
Regeneration under the canopy of a mature stand, which will form the future main stand. In the NFI this refers to the unit of evaluation that comprises all layered stands where measures to initiate or promote regeneration have been carried out during the past 10 years.

[D] Verjüngung unter Schirm
Unter dem Kronenschirm eines Altbestandes stehende Verjüngung, welche den zukünftigen Hauptbestand bilden soll. Im LFI Auswertungseinheit, welche alle schichtigen Bestände zusammenfasst, in denen in den letzten 10 Jahren Massnahmen zur Einleitung oder Förderung der Verjüngung durchgeführt wurden.

Rajeunissement situé sous le couvert des houppiers d'un vieux peuplement qui doit former le futur peuplement principal. Dans l'IFN, ensemble analysé qui englobe tous les peuplements uniformes dans lesquels on a entrepris, au cours des 10 dernières années, des mesures pour engager ou encourager la régénération.

[I] rinnovazione sotto copertura
Rinnovazione che si afferma sotto copertura del vecchio popolamento e che dovrà andare a costituire il futuro popolamento principale. Nell'IFN intesa come unità di analisi che comprende tutti i popolamenti dove negli ultimi 10 anni sono state svolte attività per l'introduzione o l'incentivazione della rinnovazione.

  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
