On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

regeneration (forest)

a) All the young plants intended to form the future main stand (according to WT), cf. young forest, second growth. b) All natural occurrences and silvicultural measures enabling the germination and growth of young trees (according to WT). In the NFI this term is generally used for all young trees (trees of the young forest classes 1-7, i.e. from at least 10 cm height to a maximum of 11.9 cm BHD). In other cases we talk about regeneration activities or regeneration measures. [D] Verjüngung (Waldverjüngung) a) Gesamtheit der Jungpflanzen, welche den zukünftigen Hauptbestand bilden sollen (nach WT), vgl. Jungwald, Nachwuchs. b) Gesamtheit der natürlichen Ereignisse und der ergriffenen waldbaulichen Massnahmen, um das Ansamen und Aufwachsen von Jungbäumen zu ermöglichen (nach WT). Im LFI steht der Begriff meist für die Gesamtheit der Jungbäume (Bäume der Jungwaldklassen 1-­7, d.h. von mind. 10 cm Höhe bis max. 11,9 cm BHD). Im anderen Fall wird entweder von Verjüngungstätigkeit oder Verjüngungsmassnahmen gesprochen. [F] régénération (de la forêt) Ensemble des phénomènes naturels et des mesures sylvicoles qui permettent l'ensemencement et la croissance des jeunes arbres (selon WT). Se dit par extension du rajeunissement lui-même. [I] rinnovazione (del bosco) a) Insieme di giovani piante che dovrebbero costituire il futuro popolamento principale (da WT), vedi bosco giovane, nuova generazione (rinnovazione).
