On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

  • standard, reserved

    Mature tree left on the stand area after regeneration. The reserved standard should develop greater diameter and also protect the young forest.
  • [de] Überhälter
    Baum des Altholzes, der nach Abschluss der Verjüngung auf einer Bestandesfläche belassen wird. Der Überhalter soll dadurch einerseits einen grösseren Durchmesser erreichen und andererseits dem Jungwald Schutz gewähren.
  • [fr] réserve
    Arbre du vieux peuplement conservé après la régénération d'un peuplement. La réserve peut ainsi atteindre des gros diamètres et protéger d'autre part la jeune forêt.
  • [it] rilascio
    Albero del vecchio popolamento rilasciato sul terreno dopo l'affermazione della rinnovazione. L'albero stramaturo dovrebbe da una parte raggiungere dimensioni maggiori, dall'altra garantire protezione al bosco giovane.

  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
